Hello, open gaming fans! In this week's edition, we take a look at the GOG Galaxy beta gaming platform, the KADE miniConsole+ for retro games, new Yooka-Laylee game backed at 1.5M, and more!
Open gaming roundup for May 2 - 9, 2015
GOG Galaxy beta gaming system launched
GOG.com, formerly Good Old Games, has released Galaxy beta. Galaxy, a client-based, online gaming platform, is available for Windows and Mac, but has a Linux version expected soon. One distinct difference with platforms like Steam is that it will provide games DRM-free.
GOG GALAXY is a fully optional client to install, play and update your games. It also offers online multiplayer, achievements, chat, game-time tracking and more - but it’s up to you which features you want to use.
Yooka-Laylee backed at 1.5M
Playtonic Games, the creative talent behind Banjo-Kazooie and Donkey Kong Country, reveal an all-new platforming adventure game for consoles and PC called Yooka-Laylee.
Playtonic Games started a Kickstarter campaign on May 1, and just a day later, reached an impressive $1.5 million USD. With this backing we can expect a release for Linux on the same day as other platforms.
KADE miniConsole+ for retro games
If you want to play retro games with your preferred controller—like Nintendo, Atari, Sega, and others—the KADE miniConsole+ is for you! It lets you connect any game controller to your PC, Playstation, or WiiU.
The miniConsole+ is easy to use and works out of the box, no programming is necessary. Simply plug a controller into one end of miniConsole+ and a system into the other end and voila! you’re ready to play.
You can find KADE miniConsole+ on Kickstarter, with lots of images showing its features.
