Amazon SDK for game developers
Jordan Novet writes for VentureBeat writes that a open source software development kit (SDK), based on C++, from Amazon "makes it easier for more developers and game studios to start building code with hooks into Amazon Web Services infrastructure." Find it on GitHub.
"This SDK has been specifically designed with game developers in mind," writes Amazon engineer Jonathan Henson in a blog post.
Digital currency for gamers and game developers
Bitcoin magazine has news on the first free open source gaming currency, made by gamers for gamers and game developers. It's called GameCredits, with its own altcoin called GMC. This new cryptographic payments platform will be integrated into three video games, with TurboCharged being the first.
Vulkan against OpenGL benchmark on Intel
Gaming on Linux shared an interesting video from Intel of a demo comparing Vulkan and OpenGL. Vulkan clearly wins when it comes to CPU load and frames per second; and it looks promising for future gaming performance.
Pick of the week: 10 open source alternatives to Minecraft
Opensource.com staffer Jason Baker took at look this week at 10 open source alternatives for Minecraft. Jason said, "countless Minecraft tinkerers would love to be able to get under the hood and play around with the source code," but the source code for the original Minecraft is not available. In this article, he reviewed alternatives that license their code as open source, like Minetest, Terasology, and TrueCraft.
