One of the things we did with Scribus was that, in addition to the documentation that comes with Scribus, we started a wiki, which was open to anyone who wanted to contribute, and served as something like a developmental area where ideas for trying out new sorts of documentation could be proposed, developed, and honed to something that could later be incorporated into the official manual.
One thing demonstrated is how bar graphs can be visually confusing. It is possible to create graphs using Scribus and Python:
