I have recently had to switch away from Firefox. This is due to some problem with memory management -- it became a memory hog. It was frequently crashing, and gumming up the operation of other programs.
I prefer the term typographic quotes. In Scribus, we have the opposite issue - converting typewriter quotes to typographic.
