Anne Mulhern, who prefers to be addressed as "mulhern," was born in Buffalo, New York and grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia. She majored in Civil Engineering at Penn State, received her PhD in Computer Sciences from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and worked for a few years as a teaching professor at various institutions. This past summer of 2013, Mulhern worked for The Yocto Project as an Outreach Project for Women intern. She then joined Red Hat as a software engineer on the installer team in September.
The tab is an artefact of the typewriter. It existed to allow typists to make several spaces fast. Unfortunately, the original computer alphabet was a slavish copy of the typewriter keyboard. The existence of the tab character and the conflict it engenders should be an object lesson in why slavish copying from a prior model is a bad idea.
