for taking screenshots I recommend this excellent gnome shell extension:

it supports capturing into the clipboard, what I really do very often.
The only thing, what i'm still missing ist the possibility to make annotations.

There are a lot of things, I would do in another way, than gnome is doing it, but i know, you can't make everybody happy and normally there are good reason for the way it's currently implemented in gnome.
But I like the gnome desktop very much and at the end of the day mostly "it just works".
