Nice stories Alex. I got a little freaked reading the last one. I thought I was reading my career story.
I've been sitting in the same chair for almost 25 years and have learned my trade from some very wise people. I've written literally hundreds of scripts to automate my job, server processes, monitoring and more. And... I am the old man. :)
Where my story differs is, I've never had much time to surf the web, watch videos or participate in forums. I've always been busy looking for a way to improve a process, find solutions to new problems, whipping up a one liner using grep, sed, and awk to filter through a log file for someone. It never gets boring.

rsync works well for that too.
